How we met…
The story begins…
Ryan and Alyanna met freshman year (2010-2011) at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA - they were dorm neighbors.
Their first meeting was through an ice breaker, and they became friends through their interest in video games. Eventually that friendship grew into a relationship filled with many adventures. They cooked and ate meals together, watched movies, explored Seattle, and actively participated in “Humans vs Zombies” tag with friends across campus.
As electrical engineering majors in the same concentration, Ryan and Alyanna shared a lot of classes together.
They tackled college working as classmates, lab partners, and even teacher assistants for the same class. Each supported the other through the grind. Despite the sleepless nights, long lab hours, burnt boards, and occasional breakdowns (both physical and mental) … they graduated in 2014.
Their relationship soon evolved into a long distant one as Alyanna moved to San Jose, CA for a job and Ryan stayed in Seattle for work.
The following years were filled with Google Hangout calls and occasional meetups between the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest. Luckily, their commitment and patience with each other would be rewarded. Ryan eventually found work in San Jose - right across from where Alyanna worked.
Then one November morning, Alyanna woke up to an elaborate puzzle set-up that ended with Ryan going down onto one knee…
… and a new adventure awaits.
“On the internet, you hear a lot of things about Sonic fans that tend to make you be cautious around them. Luckily for me, I like to get ice cream and sushi more than I care about what the internet says. Between that and battling college nerf zombies, how could I not marry Alyanna? The moments we’ve spent together have been the best times of my life, and I’m excited to experience so much more - even if I have to deal with her dipping french fries in milkshakes.”

“Ryan is multiple things to me - he was a loving boyfriend (now fiancé), a supportive friend, and the best lab partner I could have hoped for. Life is more fun with him around. He makes me laugh and roll my eyes with his bad puns - but it’s one of the things I love about him. I look forward to tying the knot with my best friend and we hope our family and friends can join us as we level up in our relationship!”
